January 2024: Getting Set For 2024... and Period 9

January 2024 - wrapping-up the Water Rabbit Year under the influence of the Wood Dragon.
The month of the Wood Ox (January 6 - February 3) of 2024 is a rather peculiar transitional month. This is due to the already-strong presence of the Wood Dragon - from the start of the previous Wood Rat month (beginning December 7, 2023) and especially since the key transition of Winter Solstice (December 23). Even January 1, 2024 from the astrological perspective - is a day that further enhanced the potency of the mighty Wood Dragon of 2024!
However, the January Wood Ox is officially still the last month of 2023’s Water Rabbit… Like every 3rd month of each season, the January Ox is considered the “checkpoint” of the “winter” season (where water element is at its peak), but its role is even more important as the last checkpoint of the entire astrological year.
For this particular transition into the Wood Dragon Year, the water element is the resource to the 2024’s overall theme & external energy, represented by Jia (Yang Wood). Hence, one key aspect has been the preparation all throughout this winter season; essentially nourishing & cultivating 2024’s wood element with adequate resources, support & energy/focus!

In addition, the energy of Yin Wood Ox (Yi Chou) of January 2024 contains a balance of both restraint & support to the growth element of Yin Wood (Yi). This is significant as we are ending a year of maximum “water-producing-wood” energy - specifically Yin Water (Gui) growing the wood element of creativity, diversification & full-bloom ie. Yin Wood (Yi) all throughout the Water Rabbit Year.
In practical terms, this points to January being THE month to summarise, revamp (where necessary) & push into the next phase all the effort at nurturing & developing of ideas/plans/projects all throughout this expiring Water Rabbit year.
This emphasis is particularly bolstered by the recent Mercury Retrograde this past December, being an ideal period for a re-look into the overall endeavours & goals that we are each individually pursuing in the longer-term, such as for the upcoming 20-years of Period 9.
Overall, January is the time to get really serious - to get clear, focussed & take action in order to maximise what the majestic Wood Dragon has to offer in kicking-off Period 9! The process of implementing THE action plan for you - again, not only for 2024 but really for the entirety of Period 9 - will be particularly important once the New Year energy settles down from the 2nd week of January onwards.
The New Moon on January 11 will be an excellent launching point; after which the energy (and corresponding activities) will intensify until February. Be prepared for shake-ups and overall volatility especially towards the end of the month; embrace these as opportunities to upgrade your personal energy & growth.
